WHAT IS KAMBO?

Kambo is the skin secretion of a large green tree frog whose scientific name is Phyllomedusa Bicolor. Commonly referred to as the Giant Green Monkey Tree Frog, the secretion of the species has been utilized by the aboriginal people of the Amazonian rainforests for thousands of years. Traditionally it has been used to remove toxins from the body, increase strength and stamina and improve hunting success.  This legal, 100% ethically harvested and NON-hallucinogenic secretion is the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antimicrobial, and anesthetic substance found on the planet.

It has also been known to clear dark or negative energy, known as 'panema', allowing the recipient to overcome obstacles/challenges and life to flow more easily. These blockages can form into physical ailments and disease. When we are plagued with emotional toxins, and our physical and mental energy is low this is a sure sign that a kambo treatment is needed. Many have described their Kambo experiences as like being born again, passing a point of no return after which they are changed mentally and physically. At a mental level, your mind becomes more focused and still. There is an increased resistance to stress. You feel lighter overall and less weighed down by toxins or "clouded thoughts" that you previously had been carrying around. After Kambo, many have reported that they have renewed courage to take on new ventures in life, revisit old situations that used to fill them with fear & anxiety, observed dramatic improvements in their wellbeing, a symptoms decrease from a disease they had been battling with and aid in recovery from major illnesses.

Many peptides have since been isolated from the kambo secretion and have been synthesized. As a testament to their medicinal properties, there are over 70 kambo patents lodges, mainly in the USA.

Since its discovery by the west, Kambô has been  quickly gaining popularity for it's wide range of physical benefits. Many people who suffer from chronic conditions, that haven't been remedied by the allopathic approach, find relief with the help of Kambo. Some researchers believe that Kambô holds the key to treatments for things like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Cancer, Infertility, HIV, candida overgrowth, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, depression, Anxiety, Lymes Disease, Migraines, Vascular problems, Diabetes, Rheumatism, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Arthritis, Addiction and a heap more.

Harvesting Kambo

The traditional way

Certain tribes of the Upper Amazon, including the Kaxinawa, Katukina, Mayoruna and Yawanawa in Brasil and the Matses in Peru, maintain a tradition of working with Kambo.

These people use it to remedy the ailments of the rainforest: snakebite, malaria and other parasitic infections, and panema or curses.

They also use Kambo for hunting, when it boosts strength and stamina and renders them invisible to the animals they are trying to catch.

Almost by definition, Amazon tribespeople live in harmony with their environment. Harvesting Kambo is no exception.

The shamans call the frogs with icaros (sacred songs) and play instruments that mimic its voice. The frogs descend from the high trees where they live, and willingly walk into their hands. This frog is very passive and do not react negatively, as this Frog Maestra has no predators.

The frog is suspended on strings in X shape, sometiimes the shaman massages its toes toes to encourage the secretion which is carefully scraped off and dried on bamboo sticks. The frog is released. After it is released, the frog returns to its habitat none the worse for wear.

The strings leave a tiny white line on each leg which stops anyone from harvesting the frog again until has faded, which takes about 2-3 months. The frog is never harmed but rather sacred and treated with utmost care and respect as the people believe that to harm the frog will anger the animal spirits that they live so close with. Kambo collected this way is considered 100% ethically harvested.

Kambo frogs that are held in laboratory environments, squeezed or harmed in any way during the harvesting process are not considered to be ethically harvested.

Responsible Sourcing

The Kambô used to administer to clients is directly harvested by the Matses tribe from Peru and sourced solely from the International Association of Kambo Practitioners. The IAKP is  a non-profit organization working to ensure ethical, responsible and fair trade practice between tribal kambo collectors, practitioners and clients. Responsible and ethical sourcing and practice is fundamental to all our activities.

Phyllomedusa bicolor has no natural predators. It is not an endangered species (except for the destruction off their natural habitat).

The IAKP along with other key participants are currently working to provide the Matses tribe with better educational resources, and also  teaching them sustainable farming techniques and bringing better health care to their remote villages. The lands of this tribe are located at the front lines of illegal logging and oil exploration.
